Welcome to the home of The Gentleman’s Review on the Pornnet. If you were looking for the 18th century Gentleman’s Magazine then I am sorry to disappoint you. However you can find it here. It is an excellent publication and we at the review often take our time machine out for a spin to pick up a copy. If you are reading this, then you are probably unfamiliar with the podcast. This isn’t a bad thing as many people are unaware of our existence. For this reason listeners to the podcast have developed a way to recognise each other. This involves laying a hand on the shoulder of a suspected fellow listener and speaking the words “hail tinsel tits.” The other person should reply “hail Anne Robinson in space” and bow deeply. It is then customary to engage in drinking or sexual intercourse but rarely both at the same time. The Gentleman’s Review podcast began as an idea in late 2007 when Martin Wolfenden thought that the conversations he was having with his chums Andrew Wilson & Tom Stringfellow down the pub could be recorded and inflicted on the world. It took a few months to get off the ground as equipment needed to be purchased and a website created. During this time Richard Herring and Andrew Collins began their podcast, using only the built in microphone on a laptop. We at the review refer to this event as the ‘Martin feels like a twat’ moment: he had just spent £600 on recording equipment. However the chaps were undeterred and the first recording took place on the 22nd March 2008. It was quite a formal affair and they dressed up for the part: Andy wore his legal suit, Tom, a waistcoat and dressing gown and Martin (randomly) an RAF uniform. The 1st Anniversary Special Even in this day and age, it is unusual for a podcast to survive for over a year as many die after only a few episodes. The corpses of these unfulfilled shows can still be found floating around iTunes and people do say that if you listen to them you will go bonkers. With this in mind Andy, Tom and Martin decided that it was time to put their performing talents to the test. Enlisting the help of top animator and favourite guest presenter Lisa Goddard they set about writing a script for a feature length audio adventure. A week later, the first ( and lets face it, final ) draft was finished and they decamped over to Manchester to record the entire script in one day. There was no rehearsal and they had to find their way through the script as they went along, which was rather exhausting; however Lisa provided some excellent refreshments and she and the chaps battled on with the recording until every scene was in the can. Then they got pissed. Then the process of editing began. To achieve this, Martin locked himself in a small room, armed with only a desktop PC and an inflatable Christiano Ronaldo for company, he began the painstaking business of laying in sound effects and smells. He emerged after a week with the finished product on a memory stick and a stained piece of burst latex. He has refused to talk about what happened in that room but we can surmise from the evidence at hand that his cock was probably made sore. After a short teaser campaign ‘The Talons of Time’ was made available to download on Saturday 21st March 2009 and became an instant hit with the punters. It is still one of the most downloaded podcasts the Gentleman’s Review have ever done, which is why it merits it’s own page on this site. Thank you for reading this with your eyes.
